Submission Methods & Guidelines
- Online Submission Form: The fastest way to submit is directly through the Register-Guard Readers’ Letters Portal.
- Direct Email: You can email your letter directly to rgletters@registerguard.com.
- Word Count: Keep your letter short and focused—typically 200 words or fewer. Concise letters are much more likely to be selected for publication.
- Required Contact Information: You must include your full name, city of residence, and a phone number for verification purposes. Your phone number will not be published, but editors will use it to confirm your identity before printing.
- Frequency Limit: The Register-Guard generally allows individuals to publish one letter every 30 days.
Writing & Formatting Tips
- Reference a Specific Article or Local Issue: Start by stating clearly what issue or published article you are addressing (e.g., “Re: ‘Floral Hill Backlash’ (Sept. 10)” or “Regarding the recent proposed development on Floral Hill…”).
- Make Your Main Point Early: Put your argument or thesis in the very first or second sentence.
- Keep It Focused: Stick to a single clear topic rather than addressing multiple unrelated community issues.
- Maintain a Respectful Tone: Use clear, persuasive reasoning rather than personal attacks or overly aggressive language, as editors prioritize constructive civic discussion.
How to Verify Verification/Publication
After submitting, check your email inbox and keep your phone accessible over the next few business days in case an editor contacts you to verify authorship or request minor edits for space.
